VC Essen-Borbeck was founded in 1979 as an independent volleyball club, emerging from the volleyball department of sports club Juspo Frintrop. In 1985, the club merged with neighboring club LSG Essen. With approximately 300 members ranging from 7 to 75 years old, the club is an established provider of indoor and beach volleyball in the Ruhr region.

Location
The club operates two indoor facilities at Prinzenstraße and Möllhoven, as well as the modern Allbau BeachCenter in the Unterfrintrop district, which opened in April 2023.
Worth knowing
The women's team competed in Germany's 2nd Volleyball League during several seasons and received promotion rights to the 1st Bundesliga in 2020/21, which was not taken up due to facility and financial constraints.
